Africa was probably named for people called the Afri who lived in northern Africa near Carthage; "ca" is Latin for "land." Africa is the second largest and second most populated continent. Plants and animals were first domesticated in Africa. Civilization began here. It's the probable home of humanity; no matter where you live, you're an African, whether your skin is the palest shade of brown or the darkest.

a few things said by Africans:

“To be satisfied with a little is the greatest wisdom; and he that increaseth his riches, increaseth his cares; but a contented mind is a hidden treasure, and trouble findeth it not.” —Akhenaton

"True wisdom is less presuming than folly. The wise man doubteth often, and changeth his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubteth not; he knoweth all things but his own ignorance.” —Akhenaton

“You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.” —Naguib Mahfouz

“I don't preach a social gospel; I preach the Gospel, period. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is concerned for the whole person. When people were hungry, Jesus didn't say, "Now is that political or social?" He said, "I feed you." Because the good news to a hungry person is bread.” —Bishop Desmond Tutu

"The most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed." —Steven Biko

"We have the means and the capacity to deal with our problems, if only we can find the political will." —Kofi Annan

"When fools are cursed, they think they are being praised." —African saying

"When you know a person's friend, you know the person." —African saying

"He who has done evil, expects evil." —African saying

“Until lions have their historians, tales of the hunt shall always glorify the hunter." —African saying
